26th January 2010-Republic Day

The Yes+ NB group had chosen this mid week holiday to organize a fun filled Games Carnival for their friends and the youngsters of the community. The better part of the last few days were a flurry of activity for the enthusiastic yes + team-designing posters, devising games, organizing a venue and making the game props, the volunteers were determined to make this an event to remember!

10:30 AM and the volunteers looked smart in their white Tees & classic blue jeans .The participants were slowly trooping in and excitedly looking around to see a basketball hoop set up, a miniature race track ,hoola hoops, and remote controlled cars buzzing around!! The stage was set for an exciting day!

Kapil Saini-a teacher for Yes+ took up duties as the host and welcomed all the smiling eager faces who were waiting eagerly and had them screaming within a minute, a short introduction of the volunteers who were going to help each team and an explanation of the format for the games followed. Each team would start with 2 decks of Playing cards with the objective of building the most elaborate house of cards-a feat that requires patience, nimble fingers and most importantly a calm mind.

There were 13 game-challenges in all that involved various skills, some individual & some that required co-ordination between all the team members. The winner of each game would receive one deck of cards which they could add to their under construction house of cards.

The over all format of the Games carnival was designed to test leadership skill, delegation abilities and team work-of course combined with a lot of fun!

There was much buzzing and internal team making when Kapil picked out 5 enthusiastic captains to lead their teams. Players were allowed to choose which team they wanted to represent and had to wear arm bands of their team color, an individual introduction session and a team name helped kindle the spirit within them. Teams were given 5 minutes to sort out their game plan and play to their strengths.

Each team sent 2 participants up on stage to be their architects-to construct their beautiful house of cards! Simultaneously the other participants started on the first challenge-DROP THE COIN,a physical challenge that required the team to place a coin farthest from the designated line without crossing it. The volunteers appeared to have the most fun watching the participants literally holding their team mates in gravity defying postures. After 2 rounds of much arm twisting and stretching, the purple team emerged victorious with a brilliant drop length of 6 ft, 4 inches!
